Angela la la la
Singer Angela Bofill was born to a Cuban father and Puerto Rican mother in East Harlem, NY, NY, USA, 1954. In 1978 her first album 'Angie' was released, her second 'Angel of the Night' just one year later. A lot of the compositions and lyrics are her own, on some of the tracks she can be heard on the piano.
Her parents choose the most appropriate name possible: Angela has a pure and angelic voice and she often conveys a message of spiritual love in her songs. So I thought Christmas as good a time as any to write about this beautiful angel.
Next to the almost childlike purity in her high registers, she will also dive deep and belt certain phrases like a dramatic opera singer would. Or she howls like a wolf, uninhibited in expressing pain. And all this in just one sentence. A rollercoaster of emotions and moods... and I love it! Tenderness prevails always though.
As a Christmas gift here's my shortlist of favorite Angela Bofill songs. All you need to do is unwrap this present yourself by looking them up on YouTube.
The songs are from her debut-record Angie (1978); from Angel Of The Night (1979) and from Too Tough (1983):
